About the Small Strokes Project

I believe that “small strokes fell big oaks.” In my case, these small strokes are most often strokes of a pen or of a keyboard, and the big oaks social issues – feminism, equal rights for all, etc.

Here, I will be blogging about civil rights as a whole, sometimes in relation to my work in my graduate classes and sometimes just to talk, but I’m hoping to get some feedback from other women, men, feminists, not feminists, activists, students, teachers, etc. As humans, we all have something to say about human rights, and with the Small Strokes Project, I hope to open up the dialogue to your strokes of genius by posting your comments, stories, opinions, and answers to really pressing questions about the changing face of civil rights.

My very first review copy of a book. This is more exciting than it probably should be. But it makes me feel legit!!

Haha! I just got my copy too. And, yeah, getting my first copy of a book to review was pretty cool. I think I do it so often now, I almost want people to stop writing for a while so I can catch up on other books!

Ahh! How do you get more?! I don’t even know how I got this one. Well, I know how I got it; I just don’t know how they found me!

Spring rain

I had forgotten how wonderful the smell of a spring storm is, how refreshing it is to hear rain pelting against your roof, how calming to just listen.

When I used to live out in more rural areas, there were storms the likes of which I had never seen. Sitting in my classroom, all the windows and doors open, letting the breeze come through, all of a sudden the sky would turn green and a gust of wind would slam the door shut and before you knew it, we’d be sitting in the hallway with the students, waiting for it to pass.

I loved those storms. They seemed reassuring to me, for some reason. Maybe that was more a testament to my state of mind at the time than the hope of spring bringing on the warmth of summer. I don’t know, but when I think back on those times, I do miss the rain.

Have you ever played Apples to Apples? If not, you should! It really is amazing.

Not sure about this “Feminists” card, though. Caption reads: “Political and social activists who support selected women’s causes.” Is this typical Apples to Apples sarcasm (some cards are overtly sarcastic) or feminist theory a la bell hooks?

Tim: It's ok. It turns out it only stores tasks on a list, it doesn't actually complete the tasks for you.
